Don Bosco Children's Fund

DBCF caters to orphaned vulnerable children (OVCs) as top priority and poor orphaned youth, aged 6-18 at point of entry. Clients must not be impaired with physical and mental conditions that may endanger or prevent them from adjusting and availing of the education program and vocational training skills that demand mental stability and physical dexterity. DBCF accepts children and youth who may have families but their parents are financially incapable of supporting their education. Bright students are encouraged to pursue higher education. Yes, education is a must for children!

Historical Notes:

In 1992, Fr. John Visser, SDB began the DBCF Ministries and Services and has laid down the essential framework and foundations of the activities in Cambodia since then. In 2002, Fr. Leo Ochoa took over the direction and management of the staff and ministries.  The staff of School Year 2002 has reflected on the growth process of these ministries that brought to the primordial stance of gratitude and thanksgiving. After ten years they have come to a renewal of vision-mission statements and look forward into new horizons with hope and fortitude, a sense of belongingness.

But the children and youth, ever evolving constantly, bring about new challenges in the ministries. And to face these challenges DBCF needs to have new paradigms within the context of information technology (IT), globalization and networking.

Evaluating the last years of operations indicated certain directions that illustrated two points of reference: increased opportunities and reduced poverty. Education became a rallying point which merited a healthier and coordinated effort in formation and health promotion.

In short, DBCF strategies continue making DBCF a cradle of hopes serving the Cambodian children since 1992.
